As our team finalized our official website name, VoteDrBob.com, the domain registrar confirmed that before our campaign could legally spend money, an account “J. Bergman” preemptively purchased several website names portraying the identity of Dr. Bob’s campaign. For example, website titles “DrBobForCongress” and “DrBobForMichigan” among others are owned by J. Bergman.
I will respond with strength and call out attempts to mislead voters, but I will not partake in dishonesty.
Then, as we announced the launch of our campaign, the first unwarranted public attacks by Dr. Bob’s opponent started. For the first known time in Jack Bergman’s political career, a spokesperson publicly commented on a primary candidate’s campaign kickoff announcement. The statement includes completely inaccurate and untrue statements intended to entice fear in policy initiatives not associated with Dr. Bob’s platform and attempted to evoke non-existent political affiliations.
Throughout his career in social work, medicine, foreign service, international diplomacy, and public health administration, Dr. Bob has been an independent and revered leader. In this campaign, he is beholden to no person nor agenda other than solutions for the betterment and wellbeing of Northern Michigan.
One of our campaign mottos is #HealingPolicy. The motto extends beyond Dr. Bob’s background in medicine to how he seeks to campaign and govern.
“I am interested in civil debate, meaningful exchanges, and respectful engagement with those who agree and disagree with me, not untruthful rhetoric that erodes and divides our country and district. Politics can be dirty and riddled in lies. My opponent’s actions and words were neither truthful nor ethical.
“I will speak truth over fallacies at every opportunity. I am in this race to serve and represent my district’s people at a national level. Just as I have in all my public service roles throughout my career, I will operate this campaign with integrity and honesty. It’s also the way I will govern because Northern Michigan deserves nothing less.”
